Throckley lies on the very western fringe of Newcastle, where the suburbs give way to open fields and the road heads on towards Heddon-on-the-Wall and the Tyne Valley. It grew as a coal mining village, and you can still see that heritage in its rows of older terraced cottages. Over the decades it has been joined by inter-war and post-war council housing, private semis and bungalows, and newer estates built on the edge of the village.
The line of Hadrian's Wall runs close by, and with countryside on one side and good road links on the other, Throckley has a settled, village feel. Homes here tend to have more outdoor space than those nearer the city, and that is reflected in the jobs residents bring to us.
Gardens, outbuildings and exterior woodwork feature heavily on our Throckley job sheets, alongside the usual indoor repairs. Here is a flavour of what we are asked to do:
Former colliery cottages have plenty of character, but they also come with uneven walls, older doors and frames that have moved over time. We take the extra care these properties need, scribing shelves and skirting to fit rather than forcing a straight edge onto a wall that is not straight. For bungalow owners, many of our jobs are about making everyday life a little easier, from lowering a shelf to a comfortable height to adjusting a door that has become heavy to open.
Plenty of our customers here are older residents who would rather have one trusted person handle several small tasks than chase different trades. We are happy to work through a list at a steady pace and explain what we are doing as we go. Our general handyman service is designed for exactly that kind of mixed visit.
Inside, we also see plenty of kitchens and bathrooms that work well but look tired. A fresh coat of paint, new silicone, a replacement tap and adjusted cupboard doors can transform a room for a fraction of the cost of refitting it.
Getting a quote is easy. Fill in our contact form or phone us with a short description, and add photos if you can – a picture of a broken gate or a tired shed tells us a lot. We will come back to you with a price or suggest a short visit if we need to see the job first.
All quotes are free and there is no commitment. We agree the work up front, turn up when we say we will, and take away the waste from small jobs such as shed dismantling where agreed in advance. We do not do electrical or gas work, but we will point you in the right direction if your job needs it.
From Throckley we also serve Walbottle and Lemington, Westerhope, Heddon-on-the-Wall just up the road, and Horsley further out along the valley. If you live anywhere along the western edge of Newcastle, we are happy to hear from you.

Throckley FAQs
Yes. We dismantle unwanted timber sheds and can remove the panels and waste if that is agreed when we quote. Please clear out the contents beforehand so we can get straight on with the job.
We concentrate on smaller fence and gate repairs, such as replacing a damaged panel, fixing a sagging gate or fitting a new latch. For a full new boundary fence we will tell you honestly whether it is a job for us or a specialist.
Absolutely. Older cottages often have uneven walls and frames, so we measure carefully and fit shelving, skirting and doors to suit the room rather than assuming everything is square.
Yes, replacing a leaking or damaged outside tap is one of our regular plumbing jobs. We can also advise on keeping it protected through the colder months.
