Seghill is a small village in south-east Northumberland, sitting between Cramlington, Seaton Delaval and the A19. Like many communities in this part of the county, it grew around coal mining, and its older streets of brick terraces still reflect that. Around them are council-built houses from the middle of the twentieth century and more recent private homes, giving the village a real mix of property ages within a short walk.
Being a village rather than a large town, Seghill can sometimes feel overlooked by trades who prefer to stay in the city. We are happy to come out for smaller jobs here, and we can often group several tasks into one trip so it is worthwhile for everyone.
For one-off fixes or a mixed list, our handyman services cover most everyday household tasks.
Older terraced homes in former pit villages were built solidly, but a century or so of use means doors rarely fit as they once did, and plaster can be uneven or cracked. We fill and prepare properly before decorating, so new paint does not simply highlight old defects. Our decorating service covers walls, ceilings and woodwork, and we take care to protect floors and furniture throughout.
In post-war houses, the common jobs are slightly different: kitchens that have been in place for many years and need new hinges or doors, bathrooms that need re-sealing, and gardens where timber fences and sheds have reached the end of their life. These are exactly the kinds of things a handyman is useful for, without needing to bring in a builder.
When it comes to plumbing, we focus on the small repairs that are most common: dripping taps, slow-draining sinks, cisterns that will not stop filling and radiators that need bleeding. If something points to a larger problem with your heating system or boiler, we will tell you so you can speak to a heating engineer.
To get started, describe the jobs through our contact form or call us. Include photos if you can. We will discuss the work with you, arrange a visit if it needs seeing in person, and confirm a written quote before we begin. You decide whether to go ahead, with no pressure either way.
Many Seghill homes have decent-sized back gardens, and outdoor jobs make up a fair share of our visits. Typical examples are taking down a shed that has rotted beyond repair, refixing a gate that has dropped and no longer latches, swapping a couple of storm-damaged fence panels or assembling a new storage box or bench. We bring the tools for the job and take away the waste we create, so you are not left with a pile of old timber to deal with afterwards. If you would like a new shed built in place of an old one, we can assemble a flat-pack shed on a suitable base.
From Seghill we also regularly work in Cramlington, Seaton Delaval, Holywell and Annitsford, and along towards Hartley and the coast.
