Earsdon is one of North Tyneside's older villages, set on a rise just west of Whitley Bay and Monkseaton. St Alban's Church stands at its heart, and its churchyard holds the memorial to the miners lost in the 1862 Hartley Pit disaster. Around the village centre you will find older stone and brick houses, with more modern homes on the surrounding roads and newer developments on the edges.
That mix means very different needs from one house to the next. A traditional property might need a sash-style window board repaired or an old door eased, while a newer home might simply need blinds, shelves and a wardrobe put together. We are comfortable with both.
Older homes reward a patient approach. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, floors may slope and plaster can be fragile, so fixing a shelf or hanging a door takes more thought than in a new-build. We check what we are fixing into, use suitable fixings and scribe joinery to fit uneven walls so it looks right. Where original timber can be repaired rather than replaced, we will tell you. For larger carpentry projects, we are happy to talk through options before you commit.
Earsdon includes a conservation area, so if you are planning changes to the outside of a property it is worth checking with North Tyneside Council first. Most of the interior repair and decorating work we do will not be affected.
Start by sending us the details through our contact page, or call us if you would rather talk. A few photos help us understand the job. We can often give a free quote from that information; if not, we will arrange a time to visit, measure up and then send the quote.
Once the job is agreed, we bring what is needed, protect your floors and furniture and clean up when we finish. We do not carry out any electrical or gas work, and we will be upfront if a job needs a qualified specialist.
Landlords and letting agents with properties in and around the village can also send a list of maintenance jobs, and we will keep you informed as each one is completed.
Newer homes on the edges of the village tend to need a different mix of work. Owners of modern houses here often ask us to fit blinds and curtain poles, mount a television above a media unit, build wardrobes and beds, or add storage in a garage or loft hatch area. We are just as happy with these quick, practical jobs as with careful work on older properties, and we can often combine both kinds in one visit if you have a relative's house to sort too.
Outdoors, we can repaint a front door, rehang a gate or replace a rotten section of fence, all at ground level and without the need for scaffolding.
From Earsdon we regularly work in Monkseaton, South Wellfield, Holywell, Shiremoor and Murton, as well as throughout Whitley Bay. Get in touch to tell us what you need doing.

Earsdon FAQs
Yes, we repair and match period-style skirting, architrave and door linings where possible, and take care with fragile plaster. For very specialist restoration we will be honest if another craftsman would be better suited.
Yes, wallpapering is part of our decorating service, from a single feature wall to whole rooms. We prepare the walls first so the finish lasts.
Interior repairs and decorating are generally not affected, but external changes in a conservation area may need consent. We would advise checking with North Tyneside Council before any external alterations.
Usually, yes. A constantly running toilet is often down to a worn fill valve or flush mechanism, which we can replace.
