Handyman services in Murton

Murton is a small village in North Tyneside lying between Shiremoor, New York and the western edge of North Shields. For years it was a quiet spot surrounded by fields, but the land around it, known as Murton Gap, has been identified for large-scale new housing, and new homes have been appearing as that development progresses. The result is an area where long-established houses sit alongside brand-new properties, each with its own list of jobs.

Fitting out a new home

Moving into a new-build is exciting, but it usually means a long list of fitting-out jobs before the place feels like home. We regularly help new owners with:

  • Building beds, wardrobes, desks and garden furniture
  • Fitting curtain poles, roller blinds and shutters
  • Mounting TVs and floating shelves using the right fixings for stud walls
  • Adding hooks, coat racks and storage in hallways and utility rooms
  • Assembling and anchoring garden sheds and storage boxes
  • Sorting snagging-type niggles such as a door that rubs or a missing bead of sealant

All of these come under our handyman and odd jobs service, and we can usually work through several in a single visit.

Keeping older houses in good order

The more established homes in and around the village have different needs. Here we tend to be called for joinery repairs, tired decoration and plumbing that is showing its age. A kitchen unit door that has dropped, decking boards that have softened, a bathroom that needs a fresh coat of paint, or a slow leak under the sink are all common. Our carpentry service covers doors, kitchen unit repairs and decking, and our plumbing repairs handle taps, cisterns, blocked sinks and shower fittings.

Getting a quote

Send us a short description through our contact form, or phone us. Pictures are a great help, especially for new homes where we need to see the wall type and the items to be fitted. For many small jobs we can quote for free straight from the details; for larger ones we will call round first.

Once a date is agreed we arrive with the tools and fixings needed and leave everything tidy. We do not carry out electrical or gas work, so wiring for new lights or sockets, for example, would need a qualified electrician. We will always say so if a job needs another trade.

If your new home is still within its builder's warranty period, it is worth reporting any defects to the developer first. We are happy to help with anything that falls outside that or that you would simply rather have done quickly.

Gardens on new estates are often handed over with little more than turf and a basic fence. We can assemble and position a shed or storage box, put up a gate latch that actually lines up, fit trellis to a fence and paint or stain new timber so it lasts longer in the North East weather. In older gardens around the village, the work is more likely to be replacing a rotten fence panel, repairing a gate that has dropped or removing a shed that has reached the end of its life. Either way, it is the kind of practical outdoor work we enjoy.

We cover Murton alongside Shiremoor, Preston Grange, Earsdon and Monkseaton, and the rest of North Shields and Whitley Bay. Wherever you are in this part of North Tyneside, tell us what you need.

Murton FAQs

Handyman in Murton – FAQs

Can you help us fit out our new Murton Gap home?

Yes. Furniture assembly, blinds, curtain poles, shelves and TV mounting are among our most common jobs for new homes. Send us your list and we will quote for the lot.

Should I report new-build defects to you or the developer?

If your home is still covered by the builder's warranty, report genuine defects to the developer first. We are happy to help with anything else, or with improvements that are not covered.

Can you fix shelves to stud walls?

Yes, using suitable cavity fixings or by fixing into the timber or metal studs. We will tell you the sensible weight limits for the shelf or bracket you want.

Do you repair decking?

We replace damaged or rotten deck boards and make small structural repairs. If the frame underneath is badly decayed, we will explain what would be needed.
