Killingworth in North Tyneside was developed from the 1960s onwards as a planned township, built around a large man-made lake that is now a popular spot for walks, wildlife and watersports. Its housing reflects that story – rows of 1960s and 1970s houses and bungalows, plenty of later private estates, and modern developments added in recent years – alongside offices, business parks and the Killingworth shopping centre. The area also has strong links to George Stephenson, who lived nearby at West Moor, where Dial Cottage still stands.
With such a wide range of homes, from compact starter houses to large family properties, our work here covers a bit of everything. Killingworth is an easy drive from our Jesmond base.
Here is a selection of the work Killingworth residents and businesses ask us to do:
The earlier Killingworth houses often still have some original fittings – flush internal doors, original kitchen carcasses and dated bathrooms – that owners are gradually updating. We can help with the parts of a refresh that do not need a specialist: replacing doors, painting throughout, fitting new skirting, swapping taps and resealing. Doing it in stages lets you spread the work over time while still seeing real improvement in each room.
Newer estates come with a different set of jobs. New-build homes usually need curtain poles, blinds, shelves and mirrors putting up straight away, and doors may need easing after the first year as the timber settles. We are used to working with plasterboard walls and use the right fixings so everything stays put.
Killingworth's business parks and offices are also part of our work. We take on small jobs such as furniture assembly, hanging signs and noticeboards, adjusting office doors and touching up decoration. Our handyman service is ideal for a list of small tasks that do not justify bringing in several different contractors.
Many Killingworth homes back onto green spaces and footpaths, and gardens here take a fair amount of wear. Fences need patching after windy spells, gates drop over time and decking can become slippery and soft in places. We can repair what is salvageable and advise honestly on what is coming to the end of its life.
Use our contact form or phone us to describe what you need. Photos are always useful, and for doors or decorating, a note of the number of rooms or doors helps us price accurately. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to book.
We will agree the details, turn up prepared and leave the space clean. We do not carry out any electrical or gas work, and we will be upfront if your job requires it.
Alongside Killingworth we cover Forest Hall, Benton, Annitsford, Wideopen and Shiremoor, so most of this corner of North Tyneside is within easy reach.
