Shieldfield sits on the eastern edge of Newcastle city centre, tucked between the central motorway, the Northumbria University city campus and the slopes that drop down towards the Ouseburn. It is a small area but a busy one. Much of the housing is flats – council-built low-rise and tower blocks, newer purpose-built student accommodation and modern apartment developments – alongside a scattering of houses. That mix shapes the jobs we are asked to do here: lots of smaller interior repairs, plenty of turnover between tenancies, and a steady stream of furniture to put together.
Working in flats brings its own practical considerations. Lifts, stairwells, parking and access times all matter, so we plan visits around them and bring only what the job needs. Our team is based in Jesmond, a short drive away, so Shieldfield is very much on our doorstep.
Because so many properties here change hands or tenants regularly, a lot of our work is about getting a flat back into good order or making a new place feel like home. Typical requests include:
Shieldfield has a high proportion of rented homes, and landlords often need a reliable pair of hands for the small items that pile up on an inventory or inspection report. We are happy to work from a list: a sticking bedroom door, a cracked tile edge that needs sealing, a cistern that keeps running, a curtain rail pulled out of the plaster and a room that needs a fresh coat of paint. Grouping those jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than calling separate trades for each.
If a tenant will be home, we can liaise on access through you or directly, whichever you prefer. After the work is done we can send a short note of what was completed so you have a record for your files. For general odd jobs and multi-item lists, our handyman service page explains the kind of work we cover.
The simplest way to get started is to send a few details through our contact form, or give us a call. A short description and a couple of photos help a great deal – for example, a picture of the tap that is dripping, or the label on a flat-pack box. From there we can usually tell you whether it is something we can price straight away or whether a quick look in person makes more sense.
Quotes are free and there is no obligation. We will agree the scope of the job before starting, explain anything we spot along the way, and leave the room tidy when we finish. If something falls outside what we do – electrical or gas work, for instance – we will tell you plainly so you can bring in the right specialist.
As well as Shieldfield, we regularly work in Sandyford, Heaton and Byker to the north and east, in Spital Tongues across the city, and throughout central Newcastle. If you are just outside those areas, get in touch anyway – there is a good chance we cover you too.

Shieldfield FAQs
Yes. We regularly work in flats and apartment blocks and plan around lifts, stairwells and parking. If your building has rules about working hours or access, let us know when you get in touch and we will fit around them.
We can. Landlords and letting agents often send us a list from a check-out report, such as resealing a bath, repainting walls and fixing a sticking door. We will look at the list, tell you what we can cover and quote for the lot.
Often, yes, but it depends on the wall. Some newer flats have plasterboard partitions that need suitable fixings, and some walls are not suitable for a heavy screen at all. We will check the wall and recommend the right approach before drilling.
No, we do not carry out electrical or gas work. We focus on general repairs, carpentry, decorating and basic plumbing, and we will tell you if a job needs a qualified electrician or gas engineer.
