A Rural Village on Newcastle's Northern Edge

Dinnington is a small village in the far north of Newcastle's boundary, surrounded by farmland and sitting close to Newcastle International Airport and the neighbouring village of Brunswick. It has the feel of a proper rural community – a village school, a church and a cluster of older cottages – along with newer housing that has grown up around the original core.

Homes here are more spread out than in the city, with bigger gardens, outbuildings and more exterior woodwork to look after. Although Dinnington is a little further out than many of our areas, it is an easy run up from our base in Jesmond and we are happy to travel.

Jobs We Handle in Dinnington

Rural and semi-rural homes tend to keep us busy outdoors as well as in. The work we do here typically includes:

  • Repairing timber gates, replacing hinges and latches, and fixing loose fence rails
  • Dismantling and clearing away old sheds, summerhouses and garden structures
  • Decking repairs and restoring timber steps via our joinery service
  • Painting and staining exterior woodwork such as doors, gates and garden furniture
  • Replacing and repairing outside taps, and fixing internal leaks under sinks with our plumbing service
  • Hanging doors, fitting door closers and adjusting doors in older cottages
  • Assembling furniture for garden rooms, home offices and extensions

Weather and Exposure

Open countryside brings fresh air and views, but also more exposure to wind and rain. Gates and fences take a beating, and exterior paint and stain can fade faster than in sheltered city streets. We recommend keeping on top of exterior woodwork, as a coat of paint or stain at the right time is far cheaper than replacing rotten timber later. When we visit, we are happy to point out anything that looks like it will need attention soon, with no pressure to have it done there and then.

Inside, older cottages often have doors and frames that have settled over many years. We work with what is there – trimming, packing and adjusting so doors close properly – rather than assuming everything is level. Where a new door is the better answer, we will explain why.

The newer homes around the village tend to need a different set of jobs: fitting blinds and curtain poles, putting up shelves on plasterboard walls, building furniture for a garden room or home office, and easing doors that have settled after the first year or two.

Planning a Visit

Because Dinnington is on the edge of our area, we like to make visits worthwhile. If you have several jobs, it helps to send them together so we can plan the day efficiently. Get in touch through our contact page or phone us, and include photos where you can. We will reply with a quote or arrange a quick visit to look at anything we need to see in person.

All quotes are free with no obligation. Once you are happy, we will agree a date, bring the tools and materials needed and make sure everything is left tidy. For the full range of small repairs we offer, take a look at our handyman services. We do not carry out electrical or gas work.

Nearby Areas We Serve

As well as Dinnington, we cover Hazelrigg, Wideopen, Brunton Park and Melton Park, and the surrounding villages and estates on the northern edge of the city.

Dinnington FAQs

Handyman in Dinnington – FAQs

Do you travel out to Dinnington?

Yes. Dinnington is on the northern edge of our area but well within reach. If you have several jobs, sending them together helps us plan a full and efficient visit.

Can you repair a wooden gate rather than replace it?

Often we can. Replacing hinges, adding a brace, re-securing the post fixings or fitting a new latch can bring a gate back into use. If the timber is badly rotten, we will tell you honestly.

Do you stain or paint garden fences?

Yes, we paint and stain fences, gates and other exterior woodwork in suitable weather. We clean and prepare the timber first so the finish lasts.

Can you remove an old summerhouse?

We can dismantle smaller timber summerhouses and sheds. Waste removal can be included if agreed in advance, and we will ask you to empty it first.
